On February 9th-11th, the 1st Annual Korean VR Hackathon (KVRH) will be held at the Busan Cultural Contents Complex (BCC) 3rd floor Conference Hall. The intent is to discover novel ideas in the virtual/augmented reality industry. Over the course of three days, more than 100 participants from all over the country, including students studying VR/AR, developers, planners, and designers, will produce prototypes after collaboratively developing ideas on VR/AR products among teams.
The event will be co-hosted by the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency, Busan Global Game Center, and Youngsan University Smart Creativity and will be co-sponsored by Busan Metropolitan City, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Korea Creative Content Agency, NOITOM, HTC, Fictio Creative, and Unity Korea.
On the first day of the hackathon, there will be five sessions on how to develop VR and AR content. Through lectures led by HTC, Unity Korea, Fictio Creative, and Noitom, participants will be able to gain insight from their experiences and network with industry workers. The winning team of the hackathon will be provided an opportunity to enter the global market through the VR Incubating Program run by the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency.
The event will provide a demonstration space with VR/AR specialized devices such as Oculus, HTC Vive, and Microsoft HoloLens for developers to freely test and experience their productions.
“We hope this event will enable Busan to become the leading city for Korea’s virtual and augmented reality industry, and I will strive to promote more events to revitalize this industry.”said Tae-gon Seo, President of the Busan IT Promotion Agency.
