SOCAR Becomes Korea’s First Car Sharing Service to Reach 2.5 Million Users

SOCAR, an eco-friendly car sharing community that allows travelers to share cars with others who are traveling the same route, has became the first to exceed 2.5 million users in Korea’s car sharing industry. Since its launch in 2011, SOCAR has exhibited substantial growth every year. In the last five years, SOCAR has gone from 3,000 to over 2.5 million members, 100 to 6,400 vehicles, and 50 to 2,950 SOCAR zones.

It is unprecedented to have achieved such significant growth in a short span of time. For example, Zipcar, which provides car sharing services in eight countries including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, exceeded one million members after 17 years of service since its launch in 1999. For Car2go, which provides its services in Europe, North America, and China, it took approximately 8 years to reach 2.2 million members.

“As Korea’s number one company in the car sharing industry, we have been putting in our best efforts to spread positive awareness of car sharing and establish a proper use culture. In the future, we will strive to become a more customer-friendly company by hosting events targeted towards those who have never tried car sharing and by increasing customer benefits,” stated CEO Jung Yeol Cho.
