Among the top 100 ranked AI companies named by a tech market intelligence platform, CB Insights, Lunit Inc. (Lunit) – an AI medical imaging company – was distinguished as the only Korean company.
“The AI100” selected 100 most influential AI companies around the world and was constructed through a combination of two sources: self-submitted information from the candidates and Mosaic Score – a predictive intelligence producing algorithm developed by CB Insights through a sponsorship from the National Science Foundation.
Other AI companies included on the list were Affectiva, Blue River Technology, Deep Instinct, and Sentient Technologies. A number of firms within the healthcare, pharmaceutical, business intelligence, gaming, and manufacturing industries were listed as well. Through a process where only 6% of the 1,650 considered companies were chosen, Lunit was awarded a spot within the top 11 companies in the healthcare field, and top 7 for medical imaging.
Founded in 2013, Lunit is a company that has been developing deep-learning-based image recognition technology. Following its seed round from K-Cube Ventures in 2014, the firm raised approximately $6M from SoftBank Ventures, Formation 8, Intervest, MiraeAsset venture capitalists and others.
Mr. Baek (CEO) commented, “This award [AI 100] recognizes the global competence of our technology in the fields of healthcare and medical imaging. We will continue to work hard to ensure that our deep-learning-based image recognition technology can contribute to healthcare and medical innovation, and ultimately improve the living conditions for the humanity.”
